Do you have a rough idea of how much this has cost you? Im guessng you make money on your photography to fund your equipment?

Hi Steve,
the only money I have made from photography is from 1 x wedding and 1 x calendar shoot the wedding was for a friend so I only made £50 and the calendar made me £1000

I work in a warehouse on pretty poor money but I have a miltary pension which pays for most of my gear, also having no mortgage helps the kit I have now is pretty much slimmed down to what I used to have and it's the kit I reckon I need to get great shots, my favourites are wildlife and thats what i would say I specialise in, I'm out most weekends and now the light is improving some evenings as well, we are lucky as the Slimbridge WWT is about 8 miles from us and I frequently visit there, also South Cerney lakes or the Forest of Dean are just 15 miles from me so I have pleanty to choose from.

I am considering adding either the 400mm f2.8 or the 600 f4 to my collection, not sure which yet, but the money is there if I see one at the right price seconhand, most of my kit I buy that way, my 300mm f2.8 cost me £2000 about 4 months ago and it's mint, my 500mm f4 cost me £2700 about 18 months again it's mint and my 1d11n cost £1100 again in mint condition some 6 months ago, the 5d complete cost me £700

Unfortunately I sold the rights of the calendar to a local politician who commissioned the work and I know he got it printed and sent out but as far as I know it's not on line.

The 600 is indeed a beast but I'm used to carrying the heavy items and they don't worry me at all depite my age lots of people whimper as they have a digi slr with a 70-200 on it and "it's heavy" they need to get out more and get used to it, my kit in one form or another goes everywhere with me, even shopping around the local supermarket, up,town or anywhere else I go, Carrying an outfit of 18 / 20 kgs allday is something I ma now quite used to as I have persevered with it, the 500 in a Lentrekker case with my bins, extenders, cam net, other bits and bobs I reckon weighs about 15kg along with that goes my 300 either around my neck or on the G500 tripod which in itself weighs 8 kgs, I do tire but I just get on with it

Sounds about right i started carrying a lot of my gear the bag and at first it was like jesus do i need all of this stuff but you do get used to it. Its like walking with Aidan in his backpack its hard at first but you do get used to the extra weight.

Need to see a photo of you all geared up and try and not fall over. :-)
