Ultimate Wildife Photography Backpack

We are at the design stage of our project "Ultimate Wildlife Photography Backpack".

After buying the Tamrac Exp 7 i now realise that a large carry everything backpack is not always the best way forward. Ideal for going on holiday and taking every bit of gear with you but when your out walking the weight, bulkiness’ can be a hindrance.

My idea is to have a smaller style backpack which will hold probably up to a 500mm lens attached to camera. With a couple of small pouches either side for smaller lenses flashguns etc. This main compartment will also have space for all your accessories on the other side of the bag ie memory cards, batteries etc etc.

This is where we want to be different that most of the other manufactures, we want to create a detachable section on the base of the bag which can be zipped on and off and is totally separate from your camera equipment. This bottom base will be for supplies, extra clothing basically anything you do not want near your camera equipment.

The thought behind this is to allow you to have a small backpack for those small walks in the countryside or days when you don’t need to take anything apart from your camera and a couple of lenses. However if you are going out for longer periods of time you can attach the extra compartment and fill it with supplies etc.

At present this bag will be supplied in Black with possible camouflage cover.

What’s your thoughts on the above and anything else you would want to see?

Photography back packs

Hi Steven,

Perhaps you and fellow forum members might like to visit this site:

Kinesis Photo Gear homepage [Built for People -- On the Move]™

I purchased a long lens case and belt and harness system to carry it, from this company.

The kit was designed from the ground up for photographers - by photographers.

Excellent gear, well put together and of a modular style so bits can be added and removed as necessary - may get some inspiration here

Oh ,I like the idea of a modular system.I'd also like to see some/all the followig included :-
*a decent load bearing hip belt, not some flimsy wishy washy hipfins.and they must be padded
*a system for carrying a tripod easily.
*different/adjustable back lengths.
*decent shoulder straps which cradel the shoulder, good padding, must be waterproof, and have a sternum strap
*a tuff, waterproof tray type base to aid with durability
*waterproof zips
*If its modular, could it also link up with chair hides, to make carrying easier
*side straps/gear loops
*as for colours, realtree would be nice, but would make you look like a plonker in an urban setting, so perhaps blaack is the way to go,with a realtree cover. Also, something which does not shout out expensive camera gear on board.
*possibly something based on a military place system would work well
*It has to be comfortable....obvious I know, but I've got a cupboard full of ones that aren't
*somewhere to store a waterproof.

I've spent far too many years lugging around a variety of rucksacs, some better than others, most have had annoying niggles, which have spoilt an otherwise good design. I think keeping it simple is the way to go, less to fail when out in the field, but it should have the features we really need.my current rucksac is a macpac assent, and seems to fit the bill, being comfortable carrying 20kgs for a month in the himalayas. If your efforts come close to that, put my name on the order list.

Rob
