Help Please

I am looking at getting my partner a birthday present and i am unsure what to get him. I was looking at getting a bag to carry his camera in but i have went off that idea. He has a Canon 400D (hope that is the right name) . He bought the camera and it just came with a standard lens, it says 55mm on it. What i need to know is what lens are compatabile with his camera is it only canon lenses? What would you recommend he has just started taking bird photos?

Hi Nanette

Your partner has the same camera model as myself which will make things easier.

You are not tied into just canon lenses but you have to get a lens that has the cannon connection/cannon fit. Look at sigma or canon lenses.

Lenses i have used and would recommend

Canon 70-300 IS USM = About £300 on ebay
Canon 100-400 L IS USM = About £750 on ebay

Not Used

Sigma 70-300 = About £100 on ebay
Sigma APO 50-500mm = About £500

It really all depends on your budget, you can get the 70-300 without IS but you would be then best to use it with a tripod, i tend to stick to Canon lenses as i find these hold their value well and i tend to sell and get the next lens up after a year or so. You can see in this section there is a couple of posts about the two canon lenses metioned. They are a lot more lenses on the market i would recommend if you find any that are in your price range if you post the model am sure a member the forum has it or has used it.

Re: Help Please

I know it would ruin the suprise but would it not be best to ask him what he would like, i know he would say the 100-400 ;) but give him your budget and say would would you prefer that whay he is going to be 100% happy.
