Took this photo of i have no idea what, it was dark took it in the morning, looks like its laying eggs?

Possible Poplar Hawk-moth?

Hi Steven,

Have looked at this a good few times and I think you are correct in saying it is the Poplar Hawk Moth. Did you use flash - as that might have made the colours difficult to see - the shape looks about right! Did you disturb it at all? If disturbed it flashes two red/brown patches that are usually covered when at rest...

HI David, i had to use flash as it was very overcast and not much light at all, dont think i disturbed it, i noticed eggs on the fence.
