Getting ready for the Isle of Lewis

Thats me getting ready for our short break in the Isle of Lewis. We set off on the the morning ferry to stornoway, looking forward to a well deserved break.

I have been reading on many sites about the wildlife on the isle of Lewis and im hoping to go to the Uig hills to try and spot some of the Golden eagles and hopefully some white tailed sea eagles.

Oh i just had my best wildlife experence ever in my life. One the way to Uig we spotted a large bird of prey and i got out but it was too far away to get a decent shot or even to identify it. On the way back we stopped at the same place, OMG there was 1 x White Tailed Sea Eagle, 2x i think golden ealges (need to check the pics). Honestly i was standing there and the 3 birds went over my head about 60 feet at the most i could even see the white neck of the sea eagle and i actually got a shock when i heard the call of another bird behind me. I can not explain atm how good it was to see these birds so close in the wild by far my best experence so far.

Just had a look at the photos and to my my suprise when you look at them in sequence you can actually see what i think is a golden eagle (have to double check) attacking a Sea Eagle then another eagle getting in on it. The images are not 100% in focus which i am totally gutted about, can't edit them on the laptop as its overheating the gfx card so will have to wait till i am home.

The Isle of Lewis is a stunning place and we are already thinking about booking up to come back sometime in May. The scenery is breathtaking going from the North of Lewis (butt of Lewis) down the west coast to the Uig hills was lovely good 5 hour drive as we stopped off a few places to take it in. We then went from Stornoway down to Harris which again was amazing scenery.

Manged to get a couple of my better shots upload tonight. Check you gallery section. http://www.ultimatenaturegear.co.uk/forum/gallery/

I think i could have done a lot better with a decent tripod, the ISO setting was set pretty high which has caused a bit of nosie as the weather was so changable.

Isobel is on a distinguished road
Looks like you got luck with the eagles Steven. Glad you had a good time even with the bad weather.
