If you have ever been up this way in you would have noticed there are a load of signs warning of stags/deer on the road over a long stretch of road before braemore junction.
I have spoken to a number of tourists that come to Ullapool and they always ask why so many signs when we have not seen a single deer? What they dont realise is the stags come out most at night and its as darkness falls you see their eyes at the side of the road or even on the road. They tend to come closer to the road for the better feeding grounds and even more at winter for the salt on the road.
Anyway back to the point of the this post, the council have decided to put up those solar signs you see warning of speed. They have put them at the start and really the end of high risk deer area.
My question to you's if you were a tourist and see the signs would it slow you down? Its not just the wildlife thats in danger if you hit a stag there is a chance dependant on what vehicle you are in that it could come through your windscreen.
Here is the strech of road if anyone is interested
