How far do you travel for wildlife?

How far do you travel to find your wildlife? Might sound like a stupid question, but just wondering how far a field you's go to find your wildlife. At present if i want to go looking for deer i travel about 14 miles south of Ullapool, park up and go walking.

steven, both Bryan and I have travelled some distance to get specific shots, sometimes 100-200 miles, and usually willl travel about 50miles each trip out. However, I'm of the opinion that closer to home is the best, you can get there easier, cheaper, more often, when the light is good.We all tend to think that further away is better, and often miss out on great shots closer to home. Having said that,I'm considering a trip to scotland/ orkney (if flights work out ok),Jersey for this year, an d if I can afford it back to Nepal next year, but for wildlife pics not climbing.

I would travel 100 perhaps 200 miles with an overnight stopover for a good chance of wildlife photgraphs, Rob and I travel between 50 and 70 miles a day most weekends, as rob already mentioned we have a few trips in the planning stage, all the best Bryan.

Keep it local at the moment. I get to travel around the west coast with my work and often take my kit but hardly ever get time to use it.

Cool thats the same, i put the kits in the boot and think that would be a nice photo pitty i cannot stop. Time is my worst enemy.

Infact time/weather, the time i do get free tends to be the time when the weather is bad or by the time i can get out with the camera its dark.

I travel a good deal with my job and have similar problems in that I just dont get the time and conditions right. Good weather and penty to photograph = no time. Time = nothing about and lousy weather

I also always carry a camera of some description with me, normally the slr.As I also do a fair amount of mileage travelling around the country to dog shows. This does put me in some great places, and hopefully some good photo opportunities.the poor car does suffer though,it has more miles than the starship enterprise, 230,000+ miles, and not a wrong beat.

Well, Bryan and I went out today, and traavelled about 30 miles, and that was only local.Would have gone further as we were following a buzzard, but had to return home to secure my shed, as the local kids had forced entry.

Yes Steven unfortunatly. We've been plauged by them for the past few years.last year they pulled the gas main pipe off the side of the house twice!, we've had cast iron drain pipes pulled off the wall, cars broken into. the local plod are as much use as a chocolate teapot. the only time we had some peace is when I chased a few of tem up the street with a climbing shovel!. Not politically correct, but effective.
