Wild About Your Garden

Anyone watch the tv program wild about your garden?
It's good to see them trying to premote wildlife instead of concrete jungles.

Wild Life Gardens

The programmes are great for getting ideas - but unless you have loads of the green stuff - it all takes time and effort. Of course, done right, it is well worth it. My garden is now 14 years old. When I moved into the house we spent the first two years on the garden. Putting up fences, planting trees, getting all the builder's rubbish out of the ground and putting in a pond, greenhouse and a shed.

Luckily I live on the edge of farmland - well for the moment, until we recover from the recession and the building boom resumes, so I get a reasonable variety of birds. (They always turn up when the camera is not to hand)

The garden is not that big but I planted 3 trees about 12 years ago and they are a magnet for the birds. Neighbours have gone in for decking and block paving etc - their loss in my opinion. A lawn encourages the black birds and other ground feeders and the trees attract all varieties as well as somewhere to hang the feeders. I still found room for a patio and pergola so I can sit out and enjoy the garden and the wildlife, and of course, somewhere to set up the hide!

Yeah thats the thing with the new house we are limited for land but plan on using the embankment as much as we possibly can.

My garden is the size of a postage stamp, all concreate unfortunatly no option there, but plenty of shrubs etc in pots, and nothing comes there at all.I've put out food in the few places I can, but nowt takes it. I'm so miffed by this, and jealous of those who are able to attract birds/wildlife.This can only be rectified by moveing, when we can afford to do so.
