Winter Wildlife Photography Technique

As winter is now approaching quicker than we would all like, how will you be changing your photography technique? As a newbie wildlife photographer im wonder what you's will be doing over the winter. Is it just a case of put the camera away and only take out for the nice days or do yous keep at it?

I'm hoping to carry on. Winter is for me give you a great chance to get close to wildlife as it tends to risk a little bit more for food. And food is your friend to entice wildlife closer to you.

I'm hoping to get a portable hide this winter and have set up a woodland bird table in the local woods to try a capture the wildlife that my back garden will not attract.

Just flicking through the camera manual and it advises that camera will not operate in temperature's lower than 0 degrees. If this is the case then this will imit my day's shooting wildlife. Is this a general thing for all camera's or just mine....

I would say that photography is possibly a bit easier in the winter without bracken, undergrowth, leaves and the like blocking our veiw and the bright sunlight (sometimes) illuminating us for all to see from miles away and causing exposesure probs with the shots themselves.

The downturn in the general public's use of the countryside as a whole seems to calm the wild life down somewhat and as there is not so much food readily available they tend to take a few more chances to feed in the open.

I for one wont be packing my camera away till the warmer weather. It'll be nice not to have to worry about being run over by a mountain bike or bitten by a labrador

P.S.
I use a Canon 40D the manufactures recomended temp. range is from 0-40 deg. C. although I have used it at below freezing temps with no apparent probs.

Regards

Rob

Cool glad to hear you won't be putting it away. I won't be putting the camera away either just investing in a camera/zoom lens waterproof cover.
