I think i have came to a decision on what tripod to get. After a lot of looking on the internet and reading reviews i think am 90% going to go with. The tripod maybe a bit OTT for my camera and lens at present but i want somthing that is going to last.

Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 Tripod
Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip Action Ball Head

The head itself will only hold up to 5kg but i think that will be fine for me for a while and i like the idea of being able to one handed control the camera with shooting. Any thoughts on a alternative?

170.0 black 1.70 11.5 54.5 135.5 8.00

The 4-section 055CXPRO4 combines the best performances of the 055 carbon family with lower dimensions. This tripod is compact and light, with the patented Q90˚ system for quick vertical-horizontal movements. The legs adjustable at four different angles and an integrated levelling bubble is placed on the top plate.

On the recommendation from Doghouse i decided to look for his tripod, but they no longer make that model, the 055cxpro4 is the repalcemet model.

good choice Steven,I use the same head with a 055pro b.Would love to get the carbon version for travel though. This combo has never failed on me,and is more than capable when holding a big lens.

Thanks very much Rob good to know someone else uses the same head, i think its best for me to go with the carbon one just as you said to lower the weight.

I was going to purchase from morrisphoto before xmas but the order was a £8 over the £300 mark and i said i would buy now for £299.99 but they would not shift, im now determind to get it for £299.99.

nighthawk55 is on a distinguished road
.

I use a monopod ,Slik slim-pod,its ok half extended but when at its full extension it tends to be a bit flimsy, the last section is about 1/2" dia,but on the plus side its very light.

My tripod

I used to do a lot of slide photography using Kodachrome 25, which really needed the use of a tripod. I splashed out years ago and got a Benbo tripod.

It's a heavy beast for going out walking with but is very versatile with each leg able to be positioned independently.

I also like the fact the the bottom legs slide up over the top legs so you can use it easily in water or mud and not get it all up inside the higher legs like most other tripods.

Currently most of my photography is handheld as the tripod usually has the scope on it!!

Steven I use Both tripod and mono in good light I find the mono quicker to use but you cant beat a tripod when the light is low and you still want the faster shutter speed.
