Sold my first photo in a local gallery

I was a runner up in a local photography competition in Ullapool. I was away all this weekend in Aberdeen and got a nice email popping up on my phone, my stag photo sold at 10x8 for £65, I was shocked to say the least and called up local family in case it was one of them. The gallery owner said it’s the first photo to sell in a while, the gallery has a lot of landscapes shots but not many wildlife.

Anyway put a smile on my face just a few more to pay for the 5D MK II.

The photo that one was below, but less of a crop around the stag.

Red face Stag photo

I can see why it sold!

Was it framed for that price?

Did you print it yourself, or was it commercially printed

With a frame I think it should have sold for half to twice as much...

Apologies for all the questions etc

It was printed from photobox website, it was in a cheapish frame supplied by the exhibition. I wont see all of the money as they supplied the frame etc, just over the moon i actually sold a photo. :-)

One of my friends runs a B&B and has offered me to put up some photos and canvas for sale, now thinking i will take her up on the offer.

Sounds a good start.

I have a siter in law who is an artist and she recently featured on Sky, on the craft channel (Don't know the title or channel number) However, when I came back from my Safari Holiday last year, she saw some of my photos and has had limited edition prints made of the pencil and watercolour drawings she did from the photos. In payment, she is giving me the original drawing of one of my photos.
She has now included 3 of the drawings from my photos in her latest craft CD.
The 3 pics are shown below:

Google Jayne Netley-Mayhew to see her range of work

When I send her photos next time it needs to be on more of a business footing I think

Photobox tend to make the photos a bit darker than i expect them to be. Also in your account turn off the editing as they dont expect you to sharpen etc before you upload.

My Account / My Preferences and selecting "No" to the "Enable image enhancement" option

Hi Steven,

Very impressed with the quality of the image and the service. Placed order AM day 1 and received the print the next day! Can't ask better than that. The colours were maybe a little darker than on my screen, but much the same as those produced by my own Canon A4 printer. Things may improve with the Canon Pixma MP620 now that I have found the colour/paper setup menu
