I currently shoot with my camera set on most of the default settings. It seems to me that most of my images are coming out quite contrasty I think this is down to the STANDARD PICTURE STYLE setting. Would it be better to shoot in NEUTRAL and alter the settings whilst editing. I would be interested to hear what picture style other members use.

Hi,

I don't use Canon - so I don't have that setting to play with!

I usually have the camera set in the auto mode for everyday shooting - only change things when subjects are backlit, macro, or looking for a specifice effect i.e. blurred water effect in a waterfall photo etc.

I am a great believer in using what comes out of the camera - other than a bit of sharpening and a crop here and there.

Good camera, good glass and a good technique should give good results....Simple eh!

With my Nikon I have a feature called 'Picture Control' which does what you are asking. Depending on the type of shot (wildlife, birds etc) I use standard or vivid and can in PP via Capture NX2 change or tweak the picture control settings to suit the image.
