Canon 5D Mark II (rumours)

Well as posted before there are a lot of rumours going about concerning the replacement to the ageing Canon 5D. The replacement is rumoured to be called the Canon 5D Mark II and is packed with improvements.

The rumours had the camera being launched in winter 2007, well its now halfway through 2008 and still not camera being launched?

The Canon life cycle is about 3 years then they release a upgraded model and the Canon 5D was first released in August 2005 so here is hoping its going to be August 2008.

What do you think the price tag will be?

Hmm not 100% but the Canon 5D currently model body only is still going for about £1k so i would guess a little bit more, but you will find that the 5D original model will drop in price so could be a good time to get a cheap 5D.

Great news for me, I was thinking about buying a 5D recently. Give me a bigger viewfinder the current model, faster burst and fps, bigger LCD, better CMOS image sensor, 14-16mp(old camera is 12.8mp).

Im not too bothered about more pixels, i would much prefer less noise at higher ISO as i currently find my Canon 400D gets grainy on higher ISO settings.

The German Leak and the Japanese Interview

Two things happened the last couple of days that generated forum-buzz! Canon Germany had a leak, and there was a Canon-interview in Japanese

The Canon German leak is chronicled in a Thread both in the Canon 1D*/5D* SLR Talk dpreview forum.

The Japanese interview at DC Watch is in Japanese, but there is a thread discussing it, and a translation by a Japanese-speaker in This Post where you can find out what was said in that interview without having to rely on "hand being off center revision" computer-translations!

A new thread but without any source data, Claims that the 5D Mk II will be announced in August and the mythical EOS 3D in 2009. The latter may describe this particular thread, but one cannot really know for sure - unless they know for sure :)

And a popular 5D Mk II thread, where the forum users are sharing their opinions on what they like in the 5D Mk II, which of course is a bit of a moving target at the moment. Another user suggests that those looking for the least expensive 35mm full frame DSLR, should grab a 5D Mark I right now while they can.

Now thats a lot of money to pay for a camera, i could get a decent second hand car for that.

Yeah that is what i was expecting out with my budget also.

The spec does seem really good, the price is not confirmed yet so lets hope it drops a fair bit.
