Arrived today I've just fired it up. Nice camera a bit more chunky than my 400D. Looking forward to getting out with it.
On the subject of it being a grey import then I'm pretty sure it is. The photocopied manual, no software, no UK warantee card and the 2 pin plug give it away. tradecamerasonline claim they do not sell grey imports but I think that's B.S.

Found that the latest EOS utility does not install on XP (x64) so the camera was not recognised. Found out that you can install it on a 32bit machine and copy the program folder over and it works just fine.

Anyway feeling like a dog with two d***s. All I need now is some good weather and a day off work.

Been playing with my new 50D getting used to the menus and functions and stuff. I was surprised at the difference in the shutter sound between the 400D and the 50D, the 50D sounds a lot more mechanical/chunky.

I'm interested to know if anyone else has experience of the two cameras and has noticed the same thing.

i have to say I like the quick function screen with the q button thingy it's much quicker than the 400Ds menu navigation.

I just done a search Willo there is a fair bit on google about the shutter noise.

Google link

I much prefer the displays on the new camera models much easier to read and not soar on your eyes.

Does your sound the same as the rest? The size of the camera should be a pretty big difference for you if its anything like going from the 400D to the 5D.

Yep the shutter sounds the sam, it's definately a more substantial camera just want to get out and try it. Unfortunately I'm working tomorrow. Had to get another wireless shutter release as the connection on the camera is different to the 400D, bit of a bummer.
