Collard Dove Taking Off :-)

Got this photos with some quick reactions on my part (not that old yet :-), i seen the dove land and quickly brought the camera up and it took off to go towards the feeder, couple of quick snaps not even enough time to set the shutter speed. Im pretty happy with the outcome the wings are a bit blurry but i think that adds to the motion of the photo.

You can see the second shot is out of focus and the shutter speed is too slow for the speed of the bird.

Now that is a great photo, wonder if the shutter speed could have been increased to reduce the blur of the wings. As you said it was a reaction photo, good work.

Thanks for your comments Struan, i think you are right bit of a higher shutter speed would have stopped the blur of the wings. At the sametime increasing the shutter speed would have lost the motion from the wings making it static.

Re: Collard Dove Taking Off :-)

Well done Mrs Mack .. I think the top photo is excellent & agree that the blurred wing action adds to the dramatic effect of the picture ..

We get loads of Collared Doves where I live .. they've got to have the most boring & monotonous call of any Bird I can think of .. :o

Did you know that they've only been in UK since the 1950's ? .. having spread from the S.E of Europe, probably via Turkey ..

Bye for now ..

Kev ..
