Dying Green Finches

Sad to watch Green Finches dying in my garden. Again this year the dreaded finch disease strikes. The birds cannot feed because the disease causes their throat to swell so they cannot swallow. The birds become listless and totter about on the ground or sit huddled up on a perch. They usually last a couple of days in this condition and then I find them dead, having starved to death. I have contacted the RSPB and they can only advise that I stop feeding the birds for a couple of weeks and drain the bird bath. This will help to stop the spread of the disease but there is no cure!

Just got one or two Green Finches visiting the garden now. However, the sparrows have taken over big time!

I have been working from Isobels house for the last week and notice about 13-2 sparrows vs green finches, the sparrows just seem to dominate the feeders.

Dying Greenfinches

Like you - absolutely over-run with sparrows at the moment. Just the odd one or two Green Finches about. The weather is still great by the way Sat out in the garden at about 3pm with a cup of coffee and enjoyed the late afternoon sun!!!!!!!!!

I have noticed an increase in the number of sparrows lately - The RSPB say they are in decline!

Dying Green Finches

Well things are looking up. Two Greenfinches back on the feeders today. So I hope they are making a comeback.
