Sorry for the late reply, yeah Ullapool is a really nice relaxing place if the weather is good. We get pretty wet winters and the last two summers have not been very nice. Hoepfully the weather improves as it is beautiful place in the summer (if the killer midge don't get you).

Re: Some More Seagull Photos

Hi Steven ..

Being so new to the Forum .. I'd hate to thought of as being pedantic .. but there's no such thing as a "Seagull" (check your Field Guide) .. There are many different species of Gull .. eg .. Great Black-backed, Lesser Black-backed, Herring, Iceland, Black-headed, Ross's, Yellow-legged etc ... the term "Seagull" is guaranteed to have any Birdwatcher tearing his (or her) hair out in clumps ..

The great pictures you posted suggest to me a juvenile Glaucus Gull .. as borne out by the following link http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdgui ... /index.asp

Bye for now ..

Kev ..

Re: Some More Seagull Photos

Hi Steven

Your photos speak for themselves and I'm being neither facetious or patronising when I say we all had to start somewhere .. but may I respectfully suggest a small investment in a decent Field Guide to the Birds of Britain & Western Europe ?

I would heartily recommend the pocket sized edition of the Collins Bird Guide published by Harper Collins .. originally priced at £16.99 but now widely available much cheaper .. I've been "Birding" for a long time but this has to be my "ultimate" Field Guide & I rarely leave home without it ..
Those who say "Proper Birders don't need Field Guides" are talking out of their hats .. No-one can possibly know everything ..

I'm sure it would enhance the pleasure of your photography if you could identify the Birds you were Digitally "capturing" ..

Now ... if only I can get the photography bit sorted out ...  ;)

Bye for now ..

Kev ..

Re: Some More Seagull Photos

No problems Steven .. if you think I might be able to help, please don't hesitate to ask ..

A couple of other books devoted to Wildlife photography which might interest you are ...

"The Art of Nature Photography" by Niall Benvie .. published in 2000 by David & Charles .. ISBN No 0 7153 0967 6 and originally priced at £19.99 ...

"Photographing Wild Birds" by Chris Gomersall .. published in 2001 by David & Charles .. ISBN No 0 7153 1113 1 & origin ally priced at £19.99 ..

The "Collins Bird Guide" published in 2001 by Harper Collins ..ISBN No 0 00 711332 3 and originally priced at £16.99 ..

You'll probably get the "Collins" at any major Bookshop (WH Smith, Waterstones etc) .. the others will probably need to be ordered .. (I use Amazon) ..

Good hunting ..

Bye for now ..

Kev ..
