Did I dream this

Was dozing in the car on Friady afternoon while the wife was driving us to Perth. I opened my eyes as we passed down the side of Loch Etive to catch a glimps of a bird in the water. Chocolate brown body with shiny green neck and head. I thought it was some kind of duck but it's neck may have been longer like a goose then we where by it and I dozed off again. I can't identify it from my books, any ideas folks?

I'm very familiar with the merganser so I can say definately not. I've been into birds and wildlife since I was a kid so I'm not easily stumped. It definately had a solid brown colour body above the water and shiny green neck and head although I did not see the beak. I'm wondering if it was a domestic breed of duck that had decided to go native

Hi - Doesn't sound too Duck Like to me - Juvenile shag maybe? If the sun was on the plumage, that could change the perceived colour! Difficult - you will just have to go back and look

Good Luck! Post here if you do identify the bird - got me wondering too

Have found a reasonably local farm that keeps ducks and wonder if they have lost a dark campbell duck which could match the description
