Buzzard being attacked by crows?

I was out in the garden hanging up my washing when i heard a lot of noise coming from the top of the Ullapool hillwalk. When i looked up you could see a buzzard soaring high, but below the buzzard there were a lot of crows/jackdaws it was a fair distance away. The buzzard got closer and all the crows seemd to go to attack the buzzard, the crows well out numbered the buzzard and the buzzard decided to make a run for it.

Is this a common thing that a bird of prey gets attacked by flocks of birds?

Birds of Prey are always getting "mobbed" usually by the crow family. Owls are mobbed by flocks of small birds (tits, Sparrows, etc). I've heard a story of an Osprey being mobbed by gulls that much that it drowned, having been forced into the sea while on migration. Although not a bird of prey, Heron's on my local reserve are always getting mobbed by crow's and gull's.

Very common down here every time our local pair of buzzards take to the air a single crow usually followed by several will try to mob them but I love the way the big bird turns his body in mid air to show them his tallons if they get to close.

We had a W.T.Eagle stay near Andover for a couple of months earlier in the year and was surprised to learn he had the same problem.

Regards

Rob
