Red Kites Moving Further North

I used to only ever spot red kites about the black isle area north of Inverness. On the way back from Inverness i spotted one just outside Contin. Lovely looking bird just could not find anywhere save to stop and pull over to take a photo. The bird was hovering directly over a farm barn and would have made a lovely photo. Hopefully the birds make their way further up north so i can get some good photos.

Google Map oF location It does not look that far but never see any kites north of the black isle.

Hi Steven

Interesting observation. On my trip back from Preston on Sat 31 Jan 09 I spotted a Red Kite over a field just South of the A9 at Alness.

Like you I've never seen them North of the Black Isle before.

I hope they keep heading North and make it to Orkney one day

On my latest trip back up, last weekend I didn't see any North of the Black Isle, but I got some cracking views of one just across the road from the B&B I was staying at, on the Black Isle, whilst having breakfast

Didn't have my camera handy though

Cheers, Dave

Yeah that would be great, i sopped of at Tarve on the way down to Glasgow to grab a bite to eat. Speaking to the owners they said they have a pair of red kytes in the area for a while now, unsure if they are just hunting or are going to be nesting.
